It amazes me the little things Kyle notices that as adults we don’t even notice anymore. Anytime Kyle sees a plane flying by he says “wuk at, wuk at, mommy, wuk at, plane” and his whole face lights up. He does the same thing about bicycles, motorcycles, basketball hoops, water fountains, etc. Anything really that strikes his interest. He’ll hear sirens and run to the window to see what it is. Most the time I don’t even notice them. I am just amazed at his curiosity. It is such a fun stage. I find myself wanting to go to Barnes and Noble to get him books about bugs (he’s very fascinated with them but terribly afraid of them), planes, motorcycles, animals, and Curious George just to watch him study them and enjoy them. The other day I was reading him “Curious George Rides” and I noticed he knew what each page was about. I would start reading on a page and then he would finish the sentence with what George was riding. We got to the page with a helicopter. I read the first part and then he finished it by saying “helicoptlerlerler.” For words that are longer, he tends to add more syllables to the word. It’s so funny. He is soaking so much in and learning so much.

He pays way more attention to what I am saying and doing then I realize. I have not sung to him very much. I wish I had more but I always forget lyrics or just can’t think of anything to sing. There are a few songs that he has heard me sing a couple times awhile ago so I have no idea how he remembers them. The other day he was sitting in the rocking chair singing “rock a baby, tree top, wind blows.” I was amazed he knew that. A few days later I heard him singing “Happy Birthday.” How does he remember these things?

He is such a polite little boy. Anytime someone sneezes he says “bless you” and he always has to say their name after he says bless you. He’ll keep saying it until you say thank you. Lately he is saying “sorry” when he didn’t even do anything wrong. I keep trying to tell him he only should say sorry when he has hurt someone or was mean. He says “tant you” for everything. Even if he picked something up for me. I’ll say to him “no, thank you. You’re suppose to say your welcome” and then he’ll “your welcome, mommy.” For Father’s Day we went to Cold Stone. There was this father there with his four kids. Kyle’s eyes were just glued to them the minute they walked in. He loves to watch other kids and people. I think he gets that from me. They sat down next to us talking and eating their ice cream. The father got up to go to the counter and dropped his keys. He kept walking and didn’t pick them up. We could see the wheels turning in Kyle’s mind. He looked at the keys and then at the man, got out of his chair picked up the keys and walked over to the man handing them to him. It was so adorable. He is such a nice boy.

Another little thing he says lately is “I no like it.” When we first started going down to the pool this summer we tried to get him to go in but he told us “I no like it.” Finally this week he has gotten in and absolutely loves it. He looks at the pool from the window and asks me to go down there or he sees kids playing in it and just watches them. Sometimes he says “hi” to them even though they can’t hear him. Another thing he told me he didn’t like was medicine. I walked over to him with some medicine and as soon as he saw the bottle he started shaking his head and saying “I no like it.” I think he must have gotten that from me as well

Something cute Kyle taught him, is to tell you how much he loves you. Big Kyle will say “I love you” and then little Kyle will say it. Big Kyle will ask how much. Little Kyle will pause for a minute say “um”, acting like he is thinking and then says “tons.” He loves to talk and play with his daddy. He asked me this morning to call daddy. So we called him. I watched little Kyle walk around the room with the phone between his shoulder and ear answering Kyle’s questions and telling him about the toys he was playing with and pointing outside talking about the pool. His latest question he asks all the time now is “What are you doing?” He will ask it over and over even after you tell him what you are doing.

He loves sports. Anything that has to do with hitting, throwing, shooting, he loves it. He loves to play with my softball glove. Everytime we get in the car he asks for it. He just holds onto it in his lap as we drive. His favorite toys are these two little rackets we got from target for 3.99 and a baseball bat. He goes around the house hitting things. Sometimes appropriate and others not. Or he’ll hand one to me and he’ll have the other and he throws the ball at me to hit it. He’s learning how to hit it himself right now. Sometimes he’s able to. What is kind of funny is he lifts his leg up when he goes to swing and throw just like a professional would. Nobody taught him that. He just started doing it on his own. His daddy has him trained well. He loves sports. A couple days ago Kyle turned the tv on to watch some golf. Little Kyle immediately got excited, had a huge smile on his face, pointed at the tv and said “golfo.” Not quite sure why he pronounces it like that.

When Kyle gets hurt he’ll want me to kiss it. When I do he will say “all better.” Or if I am cleaning his face or nose, which he doesn’t care for at all, he will tell me “all better” to make me stop. He is a smart boy.

One last funny thing about Kyle is how he tries to hide his bink. He is only allowed to have it at bed time and nap time. He tries very hard to get it at other times but usually without any luck. What he will do is go into his room, get it out of his bed, put it in his mouth and walk out into the living room with his head bowed down, trying to look up with his eyes as if I can’t see his binky. It’s so cute. But of course he has to put it back. Or he’ll get it and stand just inside his door where I can’t see him. I walk in there and he is just standing there sucking on it. It’s so hard not to laugh when he is just so cute.

He is such a fun, delightful boy. It’s so refreshing to watch him delight in the little things of life that we have grown acustom to.

Time is just going by so fast. Oliver is 14 weeks old now and really starting to be more alert and to have his own little personality. It’s made me think back on Kyle when he was little and I remember things about him then but I wished I had journaled about it. You think you will remember it but new things happen and you start to forget the others. Like for instance Oliver loves to hold on to the burp clothes. I try to get him to hold other blankets but he won’t. He’ll grab on to a burp cloth and I practically have to pry it out of his precious little hands. The other day he grabbed onto one and held onto it while I walked around the apartment. It was just dangling down by my side in his hand. I don’t really now why I think this is cute but I do. Did Kyle do that? I don’t remember. Something else Oliver has just started doing is squawking at us. We intentionally tease him and he’ll kind of scream at us trying to tell us to stop. It’s so adorable. He is pretty easy to get a smile out of and I absolutely adore it when he giggles. He is very tickleish under his chin, on his back, and under his armpits. I almost always can get him to giggle tickling him.

Oliver loves to watch Kyle. Wherever Kyle is at, Oliver’s eyes are glued to him. It amazes me how much children love to look at one another. Kyle loves him too. He loves to give him hugs and kisses. Sometimes a bit on the smothering side. He also loves to hold him. He says to me “old em mommy, old em.” However when he is done he just pushes him away. We are working on that one

A sad but much needed transition as taken place this week. Oliver has moved to Kyle’s room. I will miss seeing his little legs kicking up out of the bassinet when he is waking in the morning and just the security of him being close by. He is getting big so fast. I am excited for the boys though. I can just picture as they get older waking up in the morning and greeting one another. I know they will have their quarrels but I am hoping and praying they are going to be great buddies. I’m hoping sharing a room will draw them closer. I am a little worried about Kyle being in a toddler bed though. I am afraid once he realizes Oliver is in the room with him he may decide he wants to join him in the crib. And who knows what he will do. As of yet when he wakes up in the morning he comes to our room and hops in bed. It’s adorable even though the last few mornings it’s been at 6.

I wanted to journal more about Kyle but that will have to happen another day. He is currently sitting next to me showing me things in his book. He just showed me this little girl and said “sad mommy.” Then he must have noticed some ears because he said “ears” and then started to rub his. He is starting to talk so much and is so bright. I think I will sign off for now and read him a few books. He listens so intently. I love it.
